Public Health Badge

18 of our cubs successfully achieved the Public Health Badge this year.
The Public Health Badge Programme aims to equip uniform group members with the essential knowledge of mosquito prevention, food hygiene and good public health habits through creative and practical activities.
Under the Public Health Badge Programme, there are three merit badges, the Mozzies Buster Badge, the Food Watch Badge and the I'm OK Badge.
In order to achieve these prestigious badges, our cubs learnt about food hygiene, prevention of mosquitoes' breeding and work in teams to present what they have learnt to their fellow cub scouts, in addition to many other activities and assignments.

One of our cubs, Lim Ze Yu, accepted the challenge to also present what he has learnt to all his schoolmates during school assembly.
Well Done, Ze Yu!

Public Health Badge - Food Watch

How long can you leave cooked and uncooked food outside the fridge?
Can you use the same board to cut cooked and uncooked food? Why not?
What is the temperature of the "danger zone" for food?
These questions and more were asked and our cubs had no problems answering all of them.
They presented what they learnt in beautiful posters and cards.

And as a treat for their quick learning, they made themselves a nice healthy hotdog burger :)

Yummy !

Road Safety Awareness Course

On 6 Aug, 5 students from Temasek Junior College paid us a special visit. They came to share an important message on Road Safety and to coach our cubs how to cycle safely. They conducted a very informative classroom lesson covering cycling equipment & maintenance and traffic rules to cycle safely.
Quizzes were held to ensure our cubs understood the lesson before they were allowed to go 'on the road', which was a cycling course specially set up in the school grounds. Helmets and bicycles were kindly provided by our parent volunteers. The cubs were thrilled to test out their knowledge on cycling safely, and we are pleased that many passed the tests with flying colors.
Ride on !

An interactive classroom lesson on Road Safety
followed by hands-on practical tips
and extra help from Aunty Kat for those learning to cycle

Pizza Mania!

Always wanted to make your own pizza but didn't know how?
Well, our cubs found out exactly how pizzas were made, and baked their very own pizza!

First you knead the dough

Then you shape it nice and round

Next you spread the pasta sauce

And decorate with all your favourite ingredients

And after baking it, Yummy! You eat your very own delicious Pizza !

We had a wonderful time!
We'd love to do it again !

Ties that bind

A scout makes friends, establishes and maintains harmonious relations....and this was clearly evident at our Camp Seeonee 8...

Our alumni - Darren, Tun Shien, Arina and Justin
"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."
Our endearing Mr and Mrs Yip always support our annual campfire with his ukele and heart warming campfire songs
"A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself."
Here are our great scouting friends from Poi Ching School with our Uncle John

Our pioneer GS Scouts Jovan, Bryan, Marc & Hao Yang, now in JCs , pictured here with our VALs Lily and Chooi Pin
"Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me and be my friend."

Cub Scout Celebration @ Temasek Primary

At the kind invite by Temasek "Raccoons" Cub Scouts, we made our way to Temask Primary School on 21 May. We were there to participate in their "Cub Scout Celebration", a special event for cub scouts to meet other fellow cubs in friendly competition, to make new friends and have a good time of fun and games after the exams :)

And fun we had indeed !

We pulled and tugged with all our might ...

We tried our very best at the Sour Grapes event,
and displayed a strong "Don't give up spirit"

Our cubs bagged Silver for King's Throne event -

We learnt a new song "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

and our rousing cheers won us Silver

All in All, we had a wonderful time.
Thanks Raccoons!
We'll love to come again next year!

Lessons on First aid , Art and Photography

Hi Cubs
Hope you have been practising your new found skills in photography, first aid and art, taught by Uncle Chee Siang, Uncle Richard and Uncle Tiang Weng respectively. Do try to summarise what you have learnt into your log books. If you had missed out on copying some of their notes and tips, don't fret. Here are their slides for your log book updates.

A Journey through Time

Hi Cubs

Did you wonder what great creatures walked the Earth hundreds of millions of years ago ?
And why did they become extinct?

What life breathed on Earth millions of stars before men?
Lepidodendrons are the prehistoric equivalent of our trees today.

Did you know that humans only appeared some 100,000 years ago, an incredibly short time in the history of our planet.

And ferns were the one of the earliest land plants.

Well, we hope you had learnt much walking through the Evolution Garden and listening to our patient guides explain the evolution of life through the ages. Write down your thoughts on how the fiery planet that our world was in ancient times have transformed into the beautiful world we live in today.
